Characteristics

Lucuma (Pouteria lucuma) is an exotic fruit indigenous to Peru, known also as the “Gold of The Incas”. It counts among natural sweeteners with the lowest glycaemic index. Lucuma imparts a rich creamy texture to meals and gives them a subtle maple taste. For many centuries, lucuma has been applied in local healing and thanks to its delicious and aromatic taste also in gastronomy.

Lucuma is a rich source of carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins (above all B3) and minerals. It contains a high quantity of beta carotene, niacin and iron as well as calcium and phosphor.

Application

The lucuma powder is suitable for sweetening cereals, oat and rice porridges, cottage cheese, yoghurts, etc. It can be used as a filling for desserts and cakes, for the preparation of smoothies and protein cocktails.
