Characteristics

Eucalyptus oil  ,,Euky Bear" originates in Australia and has spread gradually all over the world. Eucalyptus belongs to the myrtyceae family that counts over 500 registered species. Nowadays, only 10 species are used for commercial purposes. Among the most well-known counts eucalyptus polybractea, eucalyptus globulus, eucalyptus citriodola and eucalyptus radiata. All of them contain, in their leaves, eucalyptus oil, which, however, differentiates by quality and chemical composition. Our "Euky Bear" oil is extracted by distillation of fresh leaves of Eucalyptus polybractea, also known as eucalyptus ,,Blue Mallee". To obtain 50 ml of this oil requires approximately 5kg of fresh leaves from eucalyptus brushes and small trees. Eucalyptus trees growing in wild nature reach up to 100m and they have an average life span of 400years.

Eucalyptus polybractea is known for its typical rather distinctive scent. This aroma is due to the high content of the active substance – terpenoid 1.8-cineole, which has the ability to penetrate human tissue. Eucalyptus polybractea has about the highest content of this active substance of all known eucalyptus species. The content of the terpenoid 1.8-cineole can reach 95 %. Other eucalyptus species coming from China, India, Tasmania or Spain contain about 60% of this effective substance.

The aborigines used the eucalyptus oil as prevention afainst infection and in reducing fever (packs on the forehead, hands and feet). Eucalyptus has been commercially utilized and sold since 1852 when the pharmacist Joseph Bosisto began, as the first one, to distil the oil in his pharmacy and launched it onto the commercial market.

The products are available in most pharmacies.
